Trumpeter Tom Stringer leads a quintet of fantastic young players performing original contemporary jazz and arrangements reflecting influences ranging from the classical precision of modern master Wynton Marsalis, through the Modal Jazz to the free and avante garde music of Tomasz Stanko.

Surface Tension reference an eclectic mix of styles, influenced as much by Béla Bartók as James Brown. Inspired by and embracing the dynamic relationship between composition and improvisation the music explores different forms of musical storytelling - from large-scale journeys, through angular ritualistic loops, to multi-geared solo-coaster rides.
